Laura Pappano is an award-winning education journalist, author, and founder of The New Haven Student Journalism Project.

Laura is the author of School Moms: Parent Activism, Partisan Politics and the Battle for Public Education (2024), Inside School Turnarounds (2010) and The Connection Gap (2001). She is co-author of Playing With the Boys (2008).

As an education journalist, Laura has been a regular contributor to The New York Times, The Hechinger Report and the Harvard Education Letter. Her work has also appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The Boston Globe Magazine, The Washington Post, USA Today, Slate, The Atlantic and The Christian Science Monitor. She is a former education columnist for The Boston Globe.

Mentor

Laura is founder of The New Haven Student Journalism Project, which operates through Yale University’s Office of New Haven Affairs and brings together New Haven Public Students in grades 3-8 with Yale student mentors. Together, they produce The East Rock Record, published online and in print.
